SENOIA, Ga. – The small town of Senoia in Coweta County is about to become zombie central for the filming of a hit cable show. At the same time, Senoia is bracing for thousands of visitors expected to tour the 2012 Southern Living magazine Idea House.
A pre-Civil War farmhouse is being renovated and will be the focus of a 12-page spread in the August issue of Southern Living. More than 30,000 people are expected to tour the house.
The magazine chose Senoia for last year’s Idea House because it liked the charm of the town and its connection to filmmaking. More than 20 feature films have been shot on Senoia streets. The magazine enjoyed the experience so much that it decided to return this year.
“They’ve kind of fallen in love with it. We like to say that this is their little adopted town, “said Scott Tigchelaar of Raleigh Studios Atlanta.
Some visitors to the Idea House are likely to see zombies on the streets of downtown Senoia.
The cable show “The Walking Dead” is scheduled to shoot in the town in May. Construction of zombie sets will begin next week, which will involve 60 local carpenters.
Tigchelaar said people can expect to see the town a little dirtier than normal to fit the look of the show.
The Idea House will open in June. Proceeds from tours of the house will go towards a ranch for special needs kids, a charity started by musician Zac Brown.
